Mingtai's Growth and Development
Mingtai was founded in1961. The company started out with a paid-up capital of only NT$15 million and premium income of NT$13 million. After years of hard work and customer recognition, the company became second in the domestic industry in terms of premium income in 1986, and has maintained that position ever since. As at the end of 2005, the company’s capital was NT$2.2 billion, with a premium income of over NT$10.9 billion. A professional non-life insurance company, Mingtai has remained firmly in second place in the domestic market for a long period.
In September of 2005, Mingtai joined the Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance Group. In addition to its commitment to serving Taiwan’s domestic market, the Mingtai of the future will keep in pace with industry globalization and the business strategies of the Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance Group, extending its diversity of insurance products and attentive services around the globe, providing internationalized insurance services to Chinese customers located throughout the world.

Sound financial strength and a world-class credit rating
In the beginning, Mingtai gained a foothold in Taiwan’s non-life industry through its sound financial structure. After joining the Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance Group in 2005, the company’s overall financial power became even more robust, achieving the highest score among domestic non-life insurers with a Taiwan Ratings score of TWAAA and an S&P’s rating of AA-. This superb international rating demonstrates the results of Mingtai’s financial reliability and long-term stability.

Introduction to the Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance Company
Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance Company, founded in 1918, has its head office in Tokyo. As at the end of 2005, the company’s capital totaled 140 billion yen (about US$1.26 billion),with a net asset of 2.1 trillion yen (about US$18.4 billion).

An attentive domestic and overseas service network
To serve our customers effectively, Mingtai has set up 17 branches and over 50 liaison offices throughout Taiwan, with dedicated service desks serving customers in key locations around Taiwan, and more than 1000 specially contracted repair shops around the island, providing a customer service network for the speediest service at any time.
Also, to meet the insurance service needs of overseas clients, Mingtai began setting up branch offices in 1992, which now serve Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand and Vietnam as well as Hong Kong and mainland China. In this way we can offer immediate service to overseas customers.
After joining Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance Group in September of 2005, Mingtai now offers services through the Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance Group’s service centers within Japan and in 39 countries and territories, forming a globalized service network to provide customers with speedier and more localized services, thereby putting into the practice the idea that “Where the customer is, so is Mingtai.”

24-hour claims reporting service

In 1992, Mingtai launched a 24-hour all-weather emergency service hotline, providing expert emergency consultation over the phone and prompt assistance for accidents and mishaps.

In 1993 we instituted a 24-hour claims reporting hotline, accepting claims applications over the phone and providing emergency assistance. The emergency center is on call 24 hours a day, with all-weather service.

Pioneering free road rescue service
Car owners who sign up for Mingtai’s voluntary motor insurance (except for those with only Compulsory Motor Liability Insurance) enjoy free 24-hour all-weather road rescue service, for relaxed, worry-free motoring:
1. 20 km free towing
2. Free emergency service (fuel, water, locksmithing, tire changes, jump starting, etc.)
3. Free handling of special situations.
4. Claims consulting and other consulting services
These services allow Mingtai’s customers to enjoy a safe, worry-free journey with the added value of protection.

Professional loss prevention services
For the sake of taking preventative action, Mingtai not only provides customers with post-accident service, but also promotes the concept of proactive protection to safeguard the lives and property of the customers.

Thus, in 1996, we took the lead by establishing our Loss Prevention Center, providing customers with:
1. Property loss prevention services
2. Fire and risk quantification and analysis
3. Design, planning and assessment of fire safety equipment
4. Fire safety regulation consultation services
5. Risk management planning and consultation
6. Fire prevention training and emergency plan
7. Fire safety research and testing services

These help meet the pressing need for preventative measures against disaster.

Mingtai’s Loss Prevention Center passed ISO 9002 quality certification in 2000, proving that it possesses a high degree of professionalism and technical expertise. The Center has served over 10,000 businesses over the years.
